IN PERSON | ON ZOOM (VERY HONEST THOUGHTS)

It is the 9th draft of this.  And I am still having trouble with the whole subject and the whole “not sounding like a grumpy old bitch”.   But in all honestly I am grumpy, the world right now is getting right on my tits, I’m very close to 40 and I have definitely be called a bitch in this lifetime. So I am just going with it instead.

I think the yoga world needs to have a big old think about streaming in person classes. Take something from the practices you are sharing.  A really big think, a meditate even.  Maybe a bit of time out.  Stop what you are doing for a moment. For a few moments.  Feel too whilst you are there.  How does this make you feel? How do you think it makes your clients feel?

We adapted to teaching to online platforms so beautifully…… now we just need to make sure our return towards this (I’m not going to say it…. Ahhhh shit I am ) new normal with a touch of grace.  We’ve found ways to hold space for people through fibre optic.  We’ve gotten even the biggest technophobes to join us for virtual Vasisthasana (don’t google it - its a side plank).  Seriously yogis - we did an excellent job of keeping the train running even when we were so sad to be separated from the sanctuary of the studio, the scents, the silence, the closed doors, the community.  I hope you are proud if you found your way to supporting your community in the best way that was possible for you (this is also true if that best way was not guiding through these times but referring them to somebody else who was).

And yet here we are, allowed back into these sacred spaces and people have decided it is an excellent idea to bring in the technology and try to hold space in two different places at once? As somebody who cannot have a conversation via FaceTime at the same time as holding a conversation in the room I am stood in I really cannot understand how anybody can read the bodies of people via zoom, bodies of those in front of them, and guide a class simultaneously.  Have a missed a module in multitasking somewhere in my education?  Yes I wear contacts but my eyes aren’t so shit.  I am not lacking intelligence.  If any of you can explain why the hell this is going on I would really appreciate it?

The trail of technology through the studio. The tech issues.  The lack of interaction.  The shitty connection (I’m talking more than a wifi signal).  I want more for the people that practice with me.

Quality is important.  Let us not dilute our practices people.  You are doing yoga such a disservice.

In the meantime I will be here, hanging out, teaching with in person OR via zoom, waiting for the hologram update on the next IOS that allows those that practice with me to appear as holograms right in front of me as I guide.  Can we get a timeline on those please?
